Hound Hero Reviews: Altona Dog Beach & PA Burns Reserve @ Altona
Greetings, humans and four-legged thrill-seekers! I’m Theodore Houndsevelt—Hound in Residence and Woofer in Chief here at Hound Hero—and today I’m unleashing the scoop on not one, but TWO tail-wagging favourites: the beloved Altona Dog Beach and the adjacent fenced haven of PA Burns Reserve. Together, they offer one of the most versatile and exciting dog walking and daycare experiences in Melbourne’s west.
Altona Dog Beach: Saltwater Zoomies & Sandy Paws
Altona Dog Beach is a coastal dream. At low tide, the beach stretches out for epic paddle sessions, sand sprints, and sniffing galore. While it’s not fully fenced, the sheer size of the space and natural boundaries make it a top spot for off-leash play (with attentive humans, of course!).
For water-loving hounds like me, there’s nothing quite like a splash in the bay followed by a good shake and roll in the sand. And don’t worry—after all that fun, you’ll find water stations at the entrance to rinse off the salty mischief before heading home. Now that’s service!
PA Burns Reserve: Fenced Fun Right Next Door
Right beside the beach sits the well-maintained PA Burns Reserve Dog Park. This fully fenced gem features two spacious off-leash zones, ideal for separating play styles or letting small/timid hounds enjoy some quiet time. Both areas include double-gated airlocks, secure fencing, grassy spaces for fetch, and walking tracks for humans to get their steps in while we hounds do our thing.
There are water fountains, ample bins, and always a welcoming mix of locals enjoying the sea breeze and good company. For longer adventures, the park connects directly to the Western Bay Trail, which stretches all the way from Yarraville to Altona. Talk about bonus walkies!
A Hound Hero Must-Visit
These parks are more than just weekend treats—they’re regular fixtures in the Hound Hero dog walking and daycare schedule. We bring our pack here for active beach runs, sniff-heavy strolls, and calm social time in the fenced reserve. It’s also a fantastic location for meet and greets with new clients, giving hounds plenty of space to feel safe and have fun.
Whether your pup loves the sand between their toes or prefers a well-fenced grass patch for zoomies, Altona Dog Beach and PA Burns Reserve deliver every time.
Join the pack—book your dog walking or daycare session with Hound Hero and experience the best of Melbourne’s west!
